I’ve been livestreaming a solo show online for over two years now, at least once per week and more recently twice or sometimes more.
I love it. The sense of community that has evolved is incredible, and the fact that a hardcore group of people show up for nearly every stream is intensely gratifying.
Having tried to convince a few local musician friends of the benefits of streaming their music live (on Twitch in particular), it’s very apparent that the technical aspects can be a significant barrier.
So, I’ve come up with an idea!
The Sunday showcase streams
This will be a new, monthly stream, to be held on the first Sunday of each month, and going live between 3pm and 5pm.
For each show, I will have a co-star guest – a local friend/musician, and my vision is that we’ll each play 5 or 6 of our original songs, accompanying each other.
So, I’d be inviting my guest to play and/or sing along to some of my tunes, and I’ll try to play along with some of theirs too. We can share recordings in advance to help plan a set of what we each feel most comfortable with.
I think it would be nice to throw in a few covers too, of songs that we both like and could play together.
A simple, raw sound.
Whilst my own solo stream uses a looper and some guitar fx, the Sunday Sessions will be different. No gadgets!
Just my guest, myself and one large condenser microphone to capture everything that we play.
